Bert’s career spanned fifty years in advancing the health and wellbeing of children. He was a champion for children's health & advocate for children with sickle cell anemia and immigrant children. His work as a physician, researcher, hospital leader and philanthropist had a profound impact on countless children and adults. His tireless pursuit to helping disadvantaged children in the East Bay touched both his professional and personal life. It is because of Bert’s support as a leader that the Center of Excellence for Immigrant Child Health and Wellbeing was born.
