Pediatrics Immigrant Health Taskforce, UCSF

The UCSF Department of Pediatrics Immigrant Health Task Force (IHTF) was started in 2019 by a group of residents. Its mission is to act collectively to address and help improve the health and wellbeing of immigrant children and their families. Through its four main branches—legislative advocacy, residency curriculum, community partnerships, and clinical resources—the IHTF serves as a group of advocate physicians aiming to tackle the major barriers to care often encountered by immigrant families. Previous projects have included organizing protests against child separation, writing local and national op-eds on immigrant rights, speaking at residency lectures about immigrant health topics, and obtaining grant funds to provide essential resources for patients, such as family welcome bags and gift cards to help pay for immigration legal fees. The task force includes Pediatric residents and faculty, as well as residents from other specialties. The IHTF is partnered with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Chapter 1 Immigrant Health Task Force and has collaborated with the Center of Excellence for Immigrant Child Health and Wellbeing, and the UCSF School of Medicine.
