DESCRIPTION
Alameda County is home to one of the largest Afghan populations in the UnitedStates. Due to recent events in Afghanistanthere has been an influx of new arrivals inthe Bay Area, many of whom arrive withyoung children and youth.

Part one of the Afghan Families series,“Bringing Cultural Awareness to Workingwith Afghan Families” provided a historicalcontext and reviewed current eventsleading to Afghan families' arrival in theU.S. as well as providing an understandingof the cultural beliefs and values of theAfghan community, the unique culturalbackground of Afghan refugees and theirfamilies, and how their experiences withwar, displacement, and trauma can impacttheir mental health.

In this second part of the series, we willhear from local providers who work directlywith Afghan families. With a focus onproviding trauma-informed care, they willshare their experiences and providecontext, tips and resources for supportingAfghan families, specifically those withyoung children and youth.
