Honoring Supervisor Wilma Chan

Statement from The Center of Excellence for Immigrant Child Health and Wellbeing

in Honor of Supervisor Wilma Chan

The Center of Excellence for Immigrant Child Health and Wellbeing extends its sincere condolences to Supervisor Chan’s family, friends, and the community which she tirelessly served.  Supervisor Chan was an inspiration and true champion for the healthcare rights of immigrant communities, and we are humbled to have counted on her unwavering support of our mission to serve and advocate for immigrant children, youth and their families.

Throughout her career, she demonstrated a deep commitment to making healthcare equitable and accessible to all.  While on the Board of Supervisors she chaired the Health Committee, was the first Chair of the Alameda County Children and Families Commission, developed the strategic plan of the future of health care services in Alameda County, expanded the number of school-based clinics and led lobbying efforts to restore benefits to undocumented immigrants.

The Center of Excellence for Immigrant Child Health and Wellbeing gives thanks to Supervisor Chan for her leadership, heart and steadfast commitment and will continue to serve Alameda County’s immigrant communities in her honor.

There will be a public memorial in Honor of Supervisor Chan on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, 2 PM. For information about the in-person or virtual event, visit: https://district3.acgov.org/
